The dream of Padma Bridge has turned into reality with its construction inauguration on 12 December 2015. The Padma Bridge is a Multipurpose road- rail bridge across the Padma river to be constructed in Bangladesh. It will be the largest bridge in Bangladesh. It will connect Louhajong, Munshiganj to Shariatpur and Madaripur, linking the southwest of the country, to northern and eastern regions. The bridge will be contributed to a great extent to our communication, economy and industrialization. 

The length of the bridge is 6.15 km and width of the bridge is 18.10 meter. The bridge will have a total of 41 spans. The main spans will be 150m long. The bridge will be two storey structure. There will be four lane highway on upside and the bottom will have rail line. Speed of the train will be 160 km per hour. Total life -span of the bridge will be 100 years. China Major Bridge Engineering Ltd. is doing the key work while another Chinese Company Sinohydro Corporation Ltd. is supervising river training being done by Korean Expressway.

Proper communication is necessary for development of a country. When the making of Padma Bridge will be completed, the communication system between Southwest districts and the whole country will be improved. It will also enhance the development of economic sector. The benefits of Padma Bridge are given below : 

01. Direct road link between the capital and 21 districts of Southwest region will be connected by this bridge. 

02. Traveling time between the capital and Southwest region will be reduced to one forth. 

03. Electricity, gas, supply lines and optical fiber cables to pass through the bridge. So, the Southwest part of the country will get the change to be enlightened with modern technology, equipment and privileges. 

04. New employment and business opportunity will be created for the local people by communicating throughout the country. As a result, proverty will be reduced. 

05. The Padma Bridge will play a vital role in the development of farming and farmers by good communication. It will help to increase employment in the Southwest region by boosting farming activities especially vegetable production. 

The construction of Padma Bridge with own money was a courageous initiative of Bangladesh government. It proves our valor and strength and inspires us to come out of dependency that will help us to take bigger projects in future independent
